Contemporary Classical Competition Criteria
This scholarship competition is open to all students currently studying with a MB NATS member in good standing.
***The participant’s age as of November 27, 2022 determines in which level they sing***
Junior Level - Ages 13-14 $15
Intermediate Level – Ages 15-17 $20
Senior Level – Ages 18-22 $30
Advanced – Age 23-30 $35
Classes will begin at 7pm.
Repertoire:
Junior Level competitors must present one Canadian art song (not folk song arrangements) composed from 1970 onward, memorized. Languages other than English are welcome but not required.
Intermediate Level competitors must present two contrasting pieces composed from 1970 onward, memorized, one of which must be by a Canadian composer (not folksong arrangements). Languages other than English are welcome but not required.
Senior Level competitors must present two contrasting pieces composed from 1970 onward, memorized, one of which must be by a Canadian composer (no folksong arrangements), including one art song and either an aria or another art song. Languages other than English are welcome but not required.
Advanced Level competitors must present two contrasting pieces composed from 1970 onward, memorized, one of which must be by a Canadian composer (no folksong arrangements), including one art song and either an aria or another art song. Languages other than English are welcome but not required.
Competitors are required to provide both their collaborative pianists and the adjudicator with authorized copies of music scores. Any downloaded sheet music must be presented with a copy of the receipt attached.
Performers will provide their own collaborative pianists at their own expense.
Winners in any given class will remain eligible for that same class for as long as they stay in that age category. Prize amounts for each category will be announced at a later date.
